How do issues such as authorship, copyright and open access impact your desire, ability and willingness to engage in produsage, both personally and professionally?
I don’t think copyright issues have affected my participation in produsage. Mostly because I think people who participate in produsage have an understanding that the goal of produsage is to essentially “copyright” other individuals ideas, tweak and edit them to make them your own and be the consumer and producer . As a community, produsage as I have come to learn is about collaboration and sharing of information and knowledge. When creating my prototype for our first prod.assignment, I was not concerned with authorship or copyright issues mainly because I wasn’t designing it to be exactly replicated. I was designing it to be utilized and edited by my peers. I understand the importance of giving credit where credit it due, but when learning and collaborating among peers copyright issues have not decreased my willingness to engage in prodisage.
Although, I haven’t been as active as I was last week, I am diligently working on our community paper, and I will leave feedback for the first produsage assignment asap :)

No more iGoogle
Google needs to streamline to keep up with technologies changes. Outdated tool have to be replaced with up to date ones. Google needs to revamp to stay up to date with emerging ID trends--mobility being one of them. iGoogle was (and is) my default homepage when I log onto my browser. I have several widgets such as weather, horoscope, daily news, games etc., but I never use any of them. When my browser opens up to iGoogle the first thing I do is go to my searchbar and log on to blackboard or Facebook, I don’t even really glance at my iGoogle homepage. Now I need to find a new homepage since iGoogle is retiring. I’m thinking Google will create an iGoogle ese default page with updated widgets and Google will probably run the page on a new platform that is enhanced and redesigned to be useable with a mobile platform. Basically Google is outdated and like every technology needs a re-do. Google will migrate, add, and delete what is excessive and replace it with newer technology. The main reason for iGoogle retirement is because they designed it around a 2005 interface and as the article describes iGoogle was created “before anyone could fully imagine the ways that today's web and mobile apps would put personalized, real-time information at your fingertips” (Google). It’s time to bring iGoogle (or whatever it may be renamed) into our web 2.0 and mobility world.
Are we too Old??
I wanted to write about the article Dr. Dennen posted: Why Every Social Media Manager Should Be Under 25
Well I will be 25 in December of this year, and I can completely understand where the author, Cathryn Sloane is coming from when she entitled her article “Why Every Social Media Manager Should Be Under 25.”. I grew up in this social media generation as Sloane described it and I experienced the excitement and confusion of joining Friendfinder, Myspace, and Facebook. I witnessed the original layouts and watched these social endeavors explode. However, in my opinion it is a bold statement to say that, “ No one else will ever be able to have as clear an understanding of these services, no matter how much they may think they do.” While perhaps having a slight advantage having social media catapulted into my every move at a young age, I believe a learner who has not been subjected to social media in the same manner as myself and the author, still has the same ability to completely understand social media and web 2.0 for that just as well as someone under 25. It may take more time or maybe more effort but I think it is definitely possible. As far as pursuing a career in social media management it would probably be beneficial to an older manager to collaborate with a younger manager. I do agree with the author that “The truth is, regardless of age, some people have a better handle on social media than others [...] The key is that we learned to use social media socially before professionally, rather than vice versa or simultaneously.” While this is a very pertinent skill, vice versa can produce the same outcome.

Wow what a busy week! I enjoyed the more active participation I engaged in last week. Starting off strong with my blog post made finishing up my produsage assignment much less stressful. Building my first lesson plan and designing a learner prototype was fun and difficult, but I can't wait to make another!
My goal for this week is to participate in more class discussion boards and to read 5 of my classmates produsage lessons and give good feedback and ask questions! Additionally, I have a good outline of my paper started, but I hope to fill in the bulk sections with content addressing the key questions for this assignment by friday so I can tweak edit all weekend.

Week 3 Prompt
Prompt: WK 3
What uses might a collaborative wiki or blog have in your chosen (current or desired) work environment? How would they support learning and/or performance? What would be the design and implementation challenges if management tried to do this? What would be the design and implementation challenges of a user-initiated effort?
I hope in the future I can become a distance learning professor and set up course modules for the learners. Wikis and blogs would naturally be incorporated into my modules to facilitate learner collaboration and exploration on a given topic. These collaboration tools would support learning through the sharing of knowledge, studies, and experiences among learners. The design challenges would be to make sure a learner analysis was complete and the learner needs were understood prior to making a design prototype.
Reflection:
My first module design and lesson plan complete :) I'm excited to look through everyone produsage assignments and to receive feedback on my presentation. I had fun putting it together this week. I'm finishing up Here Comes Everybody, and my community research this week. I'm ready to continue to post and collaborate early on to keep up.

Just a short post tonight, I wanted to share this source. Jenny Wakefield
It has some good information and a good link to a rubric creator type tool. It may be useful for the Produsage assignment coming up.

I wasn’t able to attend the live WebEx session, but I’d like to address the 3 questions that Vanessa suggested to contribute to the session this afternoon:
1. What role do you think Web 2.0 should play in the career of instructional designers?
2. What role should instructional designers play in the Web 2.0 world?
3. What are your current thoughts/questions about Web 2.0? (share experiences thus far)
I think Instructional Designers are or will soon be confronted with a shift in their work environment. In order for the Instructional Designer to maintain and excel in their career they must keep their models and practices up to date to suit the new learning style. Web 2.0 tools can assist the Instructional Designer in the design process. The incorporation of these tools will allow the Instructional Designer to create a motivating and collaborative model that can be utilized and tweaked to meet the learners need. However, Instructional Designer, Reuben Tozman said that the value of the Instructional Designer should not waver because, “The skill that an instructional designer possesses, that writers, teachers, programmers, technical writers, and so on don’t, is the ability to systematically break down content so that it is applicable to learners and their learning styles.” I think Web 2.0 tools are a great way for the Instructional Designer to efficiently transfer knowledge to instruction that can be comprehended by their target audience.

I got a bit overwhelmed last week--information overload. Our announcement for this week suggest that if you haven't been an avid participator to try to see how your perspective changes if you start to post more frequently and lurk less frequently, and visa versa if you have been participating daily.
That being said, I think last week I did much more lurking than I did posting and responding and that's why the end of my week was overwhelming. So new goal for this week is to take time to post daily and respond to a classmate daily.
We'll see if this approach will help me to spread out the information so I'm not engulfed :)
As I am getting ready to finalize my two communities. I have chosen (I think) Pinterest and 43things. I'm wondering do I have to choose a specific Pinterest topic such as Pinterest:Weddings or Pinterest:DIY or do I just follow the Pinterest board and my homepage suggestions? Or do I do both and include both in our communities paper?
I hope that makes sense. and I look forward to being more active this week and "step out and be a bit more directly involved" and not be such a lurker :)

How might the concept of produsage be applied in your life (personal and/or professional) as it stands today? Are you already a produser? If yes, what do you do? If no, why not?
We learned this week the concept of produsage as an evolving theory of describing and understanding the emerging collaborative environment in which learner content is shaped around the learner. Bruns (2007), suggested that produsage goes far beyond that though. He said, “there is today a wider trend towards the establishment of tools and processes for user-led content creation” but made sure to extend the thought to make it clear that it is still an emerging and evolving shift to user-led content. I would have to say I benefit from produsage every day as I am researching different ID competencies and trending topics. I receive a mass amount of information because of produsage. With what I gain in knowledge I hope to continue and magnify what I can give back to learners. I have gained knowledge from a source and did not spread the good word. I think its important to take in and remember to give back. Vanilla Ice said it best with his lyrics, “Stop, Collaborate, and Listen.”

I played with some of the web 2.0 technologies suggested in this weeks announcement. I found www.prezi.com to be a really neat tool to create, edit and share presentations. Setting up my public account was free and simple with my email address and password established. There were advanced options to register for access to different accounts for an annual fee, but the basic (free) version is pretty awesome. I'm thinking about using Prezi as my main tool to create a presentation for our first produsage assignment coming up.
Is anyone else using Prezi for their assignment? Or does anyone have previous experience with this tool?

Slow beginning of the week for me. I have been working on a discussion board for my instructional trends class and wanted to share this long, but very informative study on one of the roles an instructional designer can perform within a corporate organization. I have attached the PDF, but to sum the study up very briefly the instructional designer can play a pivotal role within a big or small corporate setting. The study identifies the significance of the designer with the ability to, "...mitigate the lack of internal design skills, and create solutions that a firm on its own could never attain” (Design Studies Vol 32 No. 1 January 2011). A huge role because the designer initially may be hired to solve what the company may see as a training problem, but the ID'er will use their skill set determine where the actual gaps lie within the company and propose a convincing educated solution to the companies problem.

I hope everyone can open the link. It took me a minute to figure out how to share the pdf from my desktop to my blogger...I ended up doing it through my Google+ account to Google docs. Any other suggestions on sharing on Google's Blogger?? Or on the role of the instructional designer in a corporate setting?

This article shared by Forbes Contributor Eric Jackson, poses a very relevant question...Will there be a Web 3.0? Or will the next big shift be to mobile platforms completely.
Really cool article!
Ideas/opinions?

Why Google & Facebook might disappear in the next 5 years
Week 1 Prompt
What have been your prior experiences with Web 2.0 technologies? Do you consider yourself a leader or follower in this realm, or something else altogether? Why? Also, discuss what you hope to get out of this class.
As a member of the “Net Gen” as Hodell (2011) described I would aspire to be a leader in this realm of the technology and social media explosion. However, I am not quite sure that I am well versed in presenting and expanding on these revolutionary new community outlets and internet attraction. I hope when I complete this class that I will be much more familiar with the impact social networking has and will have on the instructional designers role, as well as the obstacles that come with understanding the emerging younger learners and user-centered designs to meet their expectations (Crook, 2012 gave ALOT of obstacles students experienced that must be taken into consideration).
I would say that my prior experiences with Web 2.0 technologies were unbeknownst to me while I was growing up along side them. Starting for me with Web 1.0, where I was always the consumer email, AOL instant messaging, and simple chatrooms were my humble Web 1.0 beginnings. Before I even entered High School (2002), I was joining my first official Blog when I set up a LiveJournal and then a Xanga, and then a MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, StumbleUpon, Pinterest etc. Needless to say I am now part of a very large and continuously growing Web 2.0 community. Most recently, I received my undergraduate degree as a distance learning student. It really opened my eyes to the possibility of community and what can be accomplished through a more informal learning environment and technology. Now I am 100% invested in giving back to the larger community and understanding the core concepts and foundations behind ISD, PLE’s, Informal Learning, and the idea of the “prosumer” as Vanessa mentioned in our first webex session.
Web 2.0 technologies open a world of opportunities for instructional designers as informal learning is gaining much deserved attention. Hodell (2011), wrote a quote that stood out to me, “For in the end, the less students think about the process of learning, the more likely they are to be successful at it.” I’m really excited to collaborate and explore the internet, after all it is my favorite place to be :)
